Papworth St Agnes

A jewel in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside, hidden away from the traffic jams of the A1(M) and the A14 and yet less than an hour from the heart of London, and less than half an hour from the cities of Cambridge and Peterborough.

Papworth St Agnes is a hamlet of less than 20 houses, some relatively modern, some very old. There is a thriving community spirit with many an event held in the redundant church of St John the Baptist.

The Church building and events are managed by the Friends of Papworth St Agnes Church (FOPSAC) on behalf of the Friends of Friendless Churches.

There is an annual Parish Meeting in April followed by the FOPSAC AGM.

After the horror of the proposed re-routing of the A14 a few years ago, the peace of this village is now threatened by the proposed construction of a power station of 8 x 127m (417 feet) high wind turbines on the former WW2 Gravelely airfield, which is now Cotton Farm on the road from Graveley to Offord.

With the prevailing wind coming from Graveley, worries are that it is going to be very intrusive, with noise and visual impact, not to mention radio interference. If you want to know more then visit the website for the action group:  www.stopthewindfarm.org.uk
